It is a region dominated by small producers. These are often 4th or 5th generation growers and co-operatives, and whenever you speak with them about their wines, the focus is always achieving the perfect balance between the grape varieties naturally high acidity and its potential for intense fruit expression which is at the forefront of what their craft. This can be an exceptionally difficult task as the growers in this region regularly have to contend with extremely challenging weather conditions. Hail is a constant threat and a particularly bad storm can and often does wipe out an entire crop.

Domaine de la Bergerie is a family estate run by siblings Rodolphe and Ludivine, son and daughter of Jacky Marteau, from whom we have bought wines on and off for many years. as ever they have managed to see off the elements and produce a wine with fantastic citrus fruit clarity and a hint of soft spice adding complexity on the finish.
