Minervois, a forgotten region

There are few wine growing regions in France which are more underrated and under publicised than Minervois. Situated close to the Spanish border in the Languedoc-Rousillon this often windy area of scrub land consists of numerous infertile terraces which have been created by the four large rivers which wind through the region. Thankfully vines are able to thrive on soils which are free draining and low in nutrients enabling local winemakers to produce superb reds from Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah.

Better Together

This particular wine represents a coming together of two of the great French wine making traditions in the aim of creating something exceptional. It is in fact a collaboration between a Burgundian named Bruno Lafond who owns Domaine Magellen in the Languedoc, and Francois Chambossier of Bordeaux. Together they have set out to seek out great parcels of vineyards and to bring their respective talents and experience together to create wines with the quality of those of their homelands but at everyday prices.

This particular expression is made predominantly of old vine Grenache which give the wine its big juicy flavours. Around 20% Syrah is then added and this brings the added substance and aromatic qualities to balance the blend
