Not to be confused with the Spain wine region this is a hot and dry region where the vines are dependent on irrigation. A region once famed for gold mining, it historically was a region that produced mainly table wines.

Today, Torrentés, Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah dominate. If Spain and Argentina can get of the naming rights of the wines sorted out it is certainly an area to watch.
