Haut-Médoc

A large appellation with 4,500 hectares under vine, and considered to fall between the Médoc AOC and the great names of Pauillac, St-Julien and Margaux for quality, the Haut-Médoc can produce very fine wines at a palatable price. Recent investment in many of the châteaux has elevated the wines to the level of excellence that the gravelly soils and climatic conditions make eminently possible.

With Cabernet Sauvignon as their backbone, the wines of the Haut-Médoc tend to be well-structured, full-bodied and capable of improving with age. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are blended in to provide perfume, finesse and subtlety.
