Pauillac

Pauillac is home to some of the most revered and expensive wines in the world.  Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Latour and Château Mouton Rothschild all hail from this area of gravelly ground on the banks of the Gironde.  Good drainage and low yields from the soil, with warmth from the body of water, combine to create an environment in which the Cabernet Sauvignon grape achieves what many believe to be perfection.

Intense, complex and long-lived red wines, with Cabernet Sauvignon at their core and Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot blended in for softness and finesse, are the specialty of Pauillac. Wine critics have a field-day with these wines, with regular reference to cigar boxes, cedar wood and pencil lead.

Blackcurrant aromas are supported by subtle soft spice. The palate brings some blackberry notes with a hint of cedar and tobacco. Whilst not as intense as the 2005, this still retains the elegance of good Paulliac and makes a fantastic alternative if something a touch lighter is required.
