Monthélie

Once sold under the name of Volnay, its more famous neighbour, the wines of Monthélie have never really stepped out of its shadow. This does them a great disservice, for the predominantly red wines of the nine premier crus are very fine in their own right. It is the drinker who benefits from this lack of renown, for these wines are underpriced for the quality they deliver.

Quite soft and perfumed in style, Monthélie will not generally age for as long as some other Côte de Beaune wines. Five years is usually the maximum.
