Pommard

Pommard is entirely devoted to Pinot Noir and it may be this single-mindedness that results in red wines of such character and intensity. They have the weight and need for ageing more often associated with the Côte de Nuits rather than the Côte de Beaune and deserve the fame that they have achieved. There are a suite of premier crus, many of them excellent, but village wines can offer very good value for money.

They are deep and dark and the best ones demand a long period of ageing in the bottle. If approached too young they can be unpalatably tannic.
