Climate

The climate is extremely continental with cold winters and hot summers. The average annual rainfall, 410 mm, is low and together with the cold winter and spring nights results in a low yield and grapes of excellent quality.

Vines

The main vines cultivated are Tempranillo (known locally as the Cencibel), Monastrell and Garnacha Tintorera grape varieties. In recent years there have been plantings of Syrah, a grape variety that is ideal for rosé wine.

Local Wine Laws

The wines are made to the local wine laws, Denomination of Origen Almansa.

  1. Marius Reserva, Bodegas Piqueras Almansa

Marius Reserva, Bodegas Piqueras Almansa, 2012 75cl

A short length of time in oak barrels helps to soften this wine, making it rich and smooth, and very approachable. A wonderfully deep ruby red colour, intense blackberry spice nose with rich wild berry fruit on the palate followed by vanilla undertones.
