Armenia—the Oldest Wine Producer in the World

01 Jan 1970

In the recent times, Armenian wine has undergone a renaissance and the Armenia Wine Company has been at the forefront of this. It is a family-owned company whose ethos is ‘the love for our country, respect for our traditions and nature’.

Their vineyards stretch across four regions (Armavir, Ararat, Aragatsotn and Vayots Dzor), each with their distinctive soils and microclimates, allowing a diversity of styles to be maintained in the wines.

The blend of indigenous Armenian grapes, Kangun and Rkatsiteli, comes from the Aragatsotn region and pays homage to the country’s capital, Yerevan—one of the world's oldest cities founded in 782 BC.

Aragatsotn is a land of shield volcanoes with their highest elevation at 4,090m above sea level. Volcanic soils are among the best soils in the world forviticulture.
