Wines referred to as being from the 'New World', as a rule of thumb, are from the pioneering vineyards of the Southern Hemisphere and North America. In other words, countries that were established by explorers and missionaries from the 14th Century onwards. Previously speaking, “New World” wines would tend to have richer, fuller, fruit-driven flavours that would reflect the warmer climates from which they reside. This has shifted due to the increased plantation of cooler climate varieties such as Pinot Noir and as such, the characterises of “New World” wines has changed and is all the more exciting for it.
