Magical Marius, Great Value Monastrell from Spain

06 Dec 2023

Monastrell, also known as Mourvèdre in France, is a red wine grape variety that thrives in warm and arid climates, making it particularly well-suited for regions like Jumilla and Almansa in Spain. The grape produces wines with deep colour and rich, robust flavors.

One of the key features of Monastrell is its ability to withstand high temperatures and still produce wines with good acidity and structure. This resilience to heat allows the grape to flourish in regions where other varieties might struggle. The wines are often full-bodied with firm tannins, making them suitable for aging.

Monastrell wines from this region, in particular, have gained recognition for their quality and value. The region's hot and dry climate, coupled with old-vine vineyards, contributes to the intensity and concentration of the wines. Monastrell is frequently used as a varietal wine but is also blended with other grapes to enhance complexity, in this case Garnacha Tintorera and Tempranillo.

This family producer have been making wine in this region for four generations so certainly know how to get the best out of this rugged land.
