The story of Wakefield Wines begins with the Taylor family (the wine is called Taylor’s in Australia, but due to a rather famous Port house they had to change the name for the European market) who embarked on a journey to create premium wines that would showcase the unique terroir of the region. Bill Taylor Sr. and his sons, Mitchell and Justin, were instrumental in shaping the winery's identity.
Today, Wakefield Wines continues to evolve, embracing modern winemaking techniques while staying true to its roots. With a portfolio that spans a range of varietals, the winery remains a testament to the Taylor family's enduring commitment to crafting exceptional wines that reflect the character of the Clare Valley.
The region's cool climate, with warm days and cool nights, allows Riesling grapes to ripen slowly, promoting the development of vibrant acidity and complex flavours. The soil, predominantly terra rossa, provides excellent drainage and imparts distinctive mineral characteristics to the wines, allowing them to be enjoyed in their youth for their lively zestiness or cellared to develop additional complexity.
