Known to us affectionately as 'Alf', this is a red grape variety which is only really found in Portugal.
It is thought to be a very close relation to the Pinot Noir grape, and produces styles of wines that are medium-bodied and have a raspberry/red fruit character. Its inner vividity and colour can be seen in the picture, which depicts the grapes just after pressing.
