The little brother of Brouilly and considered by many to be the more accomplished of the two. Its vineyards are on the blue granite slopes of Mont de Brouilly and this is reckoned to give it the edge over its lower, flatter sibling. Only just over 300ha are under vine and this makes it a sought-after wine with little left for the export market.
It is deeper, richer and more alcoholic than the wines of Brouilly with an occasional hint of spice. It remains, however, a wine to be enjoyed when young.
