Hello, my name is Alan Trease and I am the Managing Director here at Weavers. I joined my father in 1959, following National Service in Germany to become the Fourth generation to take on the family business. My education into the wine trade originated through Harvey’s of Bristol, notorious for being the most prestigious wine merchant at the time. This was a fantastic introduction to the trade and I followed this up with working in Bordeaux and Portugal. I have since been with Weavers for coming up to 60 years. Across this time, I have worked in all areas of the business, as you might expect, and have seen first-hand how the trade has developed and evolved. This is none more so than the emerging wine region that is England! It really is fantastic to see so many people enjoying wines from our very doorstep, such as the fantastic Renishaw Hall brut. If you want to know more, please read below.
The high-street is also an area that has changed over the years I have worked at Weavers, but what has remained consistent is our desire to focus in on what we do best, which is finding new and interesting wines for you all to enjoy. By staying true to our ideals, every day we are able to speak with our customers face to face which is so important to us; especially in an ever automated world.
Over the years I have been afforded the opportunity to try wines from all over the world, and whilst I am constantly trying new and undiscovered wines, my passion lies with a French cult classic, Champagne. There is nothing quite like celebrating an occasion with family and friends with a special glass of France’s finest. We actually do our own Champagne which I would definitely recommend you give a try. I also very much enjoy the Rully range. This is a red and a white from Burgundy and it is fantastic value.
When I am not at work I enjoy my tennis and golf as well as my relatively new hobby of bowls.
Thank you to all our customers for their support over the years here’s to many more generations to come.
