I chuckled when I saw this sample arrive on my desk a coupe of months ago. Given its name i felt the wine deserved a starring role in Gladiator. However, once tasted Mary and I felt it deserved a listing so here it is.  

Ribera de Duero is home to many small boutique wineries but the success of the region is seeing expansion. This new Bodegas de los Ríos Prieto started live in 2000 and is producing some notable wines.

Ribera del Duero

This is the most important region in Castilla y Leon, northern Spain. This region was made famous by the cult wine Vega Sicilia and in 1982 the DO status was granted. Tempranillo, known locally as Tinta del País, is the star grape of the region supported with Cabernet Sauvignon. The whites are becoming well know to and will soon be making and appearance in our selction.
