The sparkling wine that has taken the world by storm over the last few years. So much so that the area in which it can be produced has had to be enlargened and there is talk of allowing grape varieties other that Glera (currently the only permitted variety) to be used in production.
Made almost entirely from the Corvina grape variety (small anounts of Rondinella may be blended but often aren't) Amarone is surely the stand out wine to be made in Veneto. Amarone is the greatest of Italy's dried grape wines with whole bunches taken from the vine and left to turn to raisins in drying lodges. This results in the grapes producing far smaller amount of juice when pressed but what is produced is super concentrated and creates a powerful wine of immense character and finesse.
