Seven Springs Pinot Noir

If there is ever a story of romance and the grape, this is it! Lincolnshire born Tim Pearson, after a career in agriculture and then running a cleaning business, decided to invest in a winery in 2000 so that he and his wife Kim could follow their real passion - wine! So with the help of South African winemaker Riana van der Merwe they found a small, neglected vineyard plot in the town of Caledon in the beautiful Western Cape of South Africa.

Their vineyards are tucked between Shaws Mountain to the north and the Teslaarsdal Mountain Range to the south, with Walker Bay and the Atlantic Ocean beyond these mountains. Tim told me that it is this oceanic influence, coupled with the shale derived soils, known locally as Bokkeveld Shale, that gives the vines the potential to produce exceptional grapes from both north and south facing vineyards. Working with the noble varieties, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Pinot Noir, Mary and I fell in love with these excellent wines and are so pleased they have become a solid part of the Weavers range.

    Seven Springs Pinot Noir, Overberg, 2013 75cl

    Aromas of cherries, raspberries and strawberries fill the nose with just a subtle hint of vanilla in the back ground. Light to medium body, the palate brings form fruit and subtle spice on the finish.
