Pauillac is home to some of the most revered and expensive wines in the world. Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Latour and Château Mouton Rothschild all hail from this area of gravelly ground on the banks of the Gironde. Good drainage and low yields from the soil, with warmth from the body of water, combine to create an environment in which the Cabernet Sauvignon grape achieves what many believe to be perfection.
